Affect, Motivation, and Action lab

Welcome to the website of the Affect, Motivation & Action (AMA) lab.

Research in the AMA lab aims to understand the influence of affect, motivation, and stress on goal-directed behavior, in particular cognitive control and decision-making.

To achieve this, we combine behavioral measures with a wide variety of methods including neuroimaging (EEG, functional and structural MRI), physiology (pupil dilation and cardiovascular measures), and facial EMG. More recently we also started to study the neurochemical (endorphin-mediated) and neuroendocrine mechanisms that underlie the interactions between affect, stress, and cognitive control.

For an overview of the current research themes, please see our research page.

The Affect, Motivation & Action lab is based at the Institute of Psychology (Cognitive Psychology Unit), Leiden University. Our lab is part of the Leiden Institute for Brain and Cognition.
